On the occasion of the sixth Annual Day for Sustainable Development and Business (JADDE) which was held at the Grand Lille CCI on 8 October 2009, The Castelain Brewery proudly presented its organic beer, Jade, made from organically produced raw ingredients – barley malts and hops – whose processing is monitored by Ecocert.
As pioneers in this area, we created Jade, the first organic beer in France, made from raw ingredients produced by organic farming methods. For the brewing of this very natural beer, we have chosen exceptional raw ingredients. So the cultivation of the hops and the production of malt is strictly controlled. Their processing is also strictly monitored by Ecocert, an inspection and certification organisation. Proof that Brasserie Castelain combines its great expertise in brewing with the protection of nature. Jade organic beer is therefore a beer of quality with a rich and authentic taste which preserves natural resources and biodiversity, showing our commitment to sustainable development, which today applies to the production of our entire range of beers.

In addition to this organic beer, Brasserie Castelain has incorporated support for its region and the preservation of the environment into its business practices since 1986. This organic beer is brewed using artisanal methods with no additives. A real ecological initiative introduced by Brasserie Castelain in 1986 and crowned with success to the present day thanks to the current awareness of the consumer about natural products.
This is why we choose our suppliers according to shared environmental values. Our beer bottles and packaging are made from recycled materials and vegetable inks.
With the aim of further improving our environmental methods, we have introduced changes to the production of our entire range of beers including CH’TI beers : water management, selective sorting, waste traceability, energy saving. In 2009 we also invested a million euros to purchase a variety of equipment to expand the reclamation of glass bottles.
Producing artisanal beers of quality which respect the environment is also a team business. We educate and train our employees to participate in and improve our methods alongside us. We still have a long way to go. We constantly think about what we can do to improve. Our commitment does not stop at the pride of the brewery in our organic beer but also includes the whole of the business of brewing, from the composition of beers to packaging. According to Annick Castelain “we should always instinctively associate concern for the environment with all our new projects”.
